At Pitchroute Technologies, we believe digital transformation delivers the greatest value when technology is designed around the people who use it.
That belief was central to our involvement in the Digital Transformation for Inclusive Entrepreneurship in Ghana (DTEG) project, an initiative of GIZ Ghana, implemented by GFA Consulting Group.
Through the project’s User Testing for Adaptation of Digital Solutions for Informal Sector Entrepreneurs in Ghana component, Pitchroute served as a software engineering and technical support partner, working with 12 startups to develop and refine digital solutions addressing the everyday challenges faced by women micro-entrepreneurs.
Turning ideas into working digital solutions
Developing a digital product goes beyond writing code. It requires understanding the problem, identifying the right features, building around real user needs, and ensuring the solution is practical and sustainable.
Pitchroute’s engagement focused on helping participating startups move from product concepts and early-stage ideas towards functional, user-centred digital solutions.
Our technical support covered:
- Product discovery & feature refinement: Working with startup teams to clarify product requirements, prioritise essential features and define achievable MVP scopes.
- Software engineering & MVP development: Providing end-to-end development support for six startups, translating product requirements into functional digital platforms.
- Technical advisory & engineering support: Supporting six additional startups through technical guidance, development reviews and implementation assistance.
- Testing & product improvement: Coordinating testing, reviewing functionality and incorporating feedback to improve product usability and readiness.
- Technical documentation & handover: Supporting knowledge transfer and preparing startups to manage and continue improving their digital products.
Across the engagement, 12 startups received technical support, including six MVP development assignments and six engineering advisory engagements.
Building technology around real people
One of the defining principles of the programme was its emphasis on user-centred innovation.
Women entrepreneurs in Ghana’s informal economy face different operational realities, from limited access to digital tools to challenges with connectivity, financial services and market access.
Rather than treating technology as the starting point, the programme encouraged participating startups to understand these challenges and build solutions that respond to them.
The wider DTEG initiative engaged more than 200 women entrepreneurs across six regions of Ghana and worked with 15 digital transformation hubs. It also supported the adaptation of 18 existing digital solutions alongside the development of new solutions.
Pitchroute’s contribution formed part of this broader effort, providing the technical expertise needed to translate identified needs and product concepts into working software.
Collaboration that makes innovation possible
Delivering meaningful digital solutions requires collaboration between programme implementers, entrepreneurs, innovation hubs, product teams and technical partners.
Throughout the engagement, our team worked with participating startups and programme stakeholders to support product development, resolve technical challenges and maintain progress towards agreed deliverables.
We are grateful to GIZ Ghana for supporting the initiative and to GFA Consulting Group for coordinating its implementation and bringing together the organisations and expertise needed to deliver the programme.
We also acknowledge the participating startups, intermediary hubs and wider ecosystem partners for their commitment throughout the process.
Beyond the MVP: building for long-term impact
For Pitchroute, the value of this engagement extends beyond the digital products developed.
It reinforces an important lesson: successful digital transformation is not simply about introducing new technology. It is about building solutions that people can use, businesses can sustain and communities can benefit from.
As the participating startups continue their journeys, the foundations established through product discovery, engineering support and testing provide opportunities for further refinement, adoption and growth.
At Pitchroute Technologies, we remain committed to helping organisations move from ideas to implementation through practical digital transformation, software engineering and technology partnerships.
